Since 2014, Brew Dr. has been a proud member of 1% for the Planet. Through our commitment to donating 1% of Love sales, we support Ecology in the Classroom & Outdoors (ECO), a nonprofit organization focused on immersing children in outdoor education programs.
We became the first carbon-neutral kombucha company, sourcing all of our electricity from renewable sources and offsetting emissions from our tailpipes to our generators. During the 2019 government shutdown, we supported our public lands in our backyard at a time of uncertainty. Environmental justice has been and will remain a core pillar of our work.
However, we realize our giving must go further and help dismantle institutionalized racism within our community. Effective July 1st, Brew Dr. will donate 1% of our Uplift sales to BIPOC social justice causes. Through our structure as a B Corp, we instituted an independent committee of employees from all areas of the company to partner with nonprofits. Our focus areas will be:
Our first commitment is to Black Futures Farm (BFF), a Portland, OR based Black coalition of farmers working to eradicate food deserts in Portland. BFF, part of the Black Food Sovereignty Coalition, operates on the largest urban farm in America, Learning Gardens Lab, where our team has been fortunate enough to volunteer. The funds we donate will support a solar installation project to sustainably power the farm, renting space to help facilitate increased distribution of their fresh produce, and erecting a greenhouse for early-season seedlings. (If you're interested in donating to BFF as well, you can do so here.)
This is another early step amongst ongoing company-wide initiatives to be actively anti-racist within our own walls and support those working to dismantle racism in our community. We will continue to update the community as our internal committee designates new projects to support.
