Cultivating Creativity with Brandin Cooks
We’re really big fans of creativity here at Brew Dr. We love when people put their own unique spin on things and spread beauty through art in all its forms. This week, we chatted with NFL wide receiver Brandin Cooks about how he’s staying creative right now. When he’s not on the football field, Brandin is a talented photographer who uses creativity to challenge himself in new ways.
How are you staying creative at home during this season?
For me, I’ve been working on my photography skills but not shooting landscapes like I usually do. I’ve been trying to find unique ways to shoot, looking for little details.
Any tips for beginner photographers?
The biggest tip I can give to beginners is to never get frustrated or give up. It’s a growing process, and although you want to be great right away, the game of photography doesn’t work that way.
What do you do when you find yourself in a creative rut?
That’s a great question. For me, I start to look for inspiration from other photographers that I look up to and find out what they are doing.
How does being creative help you as a professional athlete?
It keeps my mind growing and makes me think outside the box when it comes to being athlete. It helps me to find creative ways to get better in that area of my life as well.
Who do you look up to for creative inspiration?
I actually look at Instagram, search the #creativity hashtag, and just look through what people are doing around the world.
Have you tried anything new/creative at home during quarantine?
Photographing kombucha actually was a different spin-off for me. Never did I think I would be interested in shooting a product but during this time I wanted to give it a try.
How does creativity play a role in overall wellness for you?
I believe it keeps me sane, and never in stagnant mode. Being creative helps me grow daily because it brings many challenges.
We’re honored that Brew Dr. is your beverage of choice, how often do you drink it and what’s your favorite flavor?
We asked Brandin to put his own creative spin on photographing our kombucha bottles, and he captured them hanging out in a group (while humans are social distancing), chilling in the pool, and sunbathing. Check out Brandin’s stunning portraits and landscape images at @archer12eyes.
