What Can 1% Do in the World?
Brew Dr. Kombucha is more than a beverage company, more than a division of a tea company. We are part of this planet and take our responsibility to take care of it seriously. That’s why we joined 1% for the Planet, an internationally respected nonprofit that brings together a global network of businesses, other nonprofits and individuals who commit to giving back 1% of their profits to vetted environmental causes.
While 1 percent may not sound like much, it’s making an enormous difference in the world. Since its inception 17 years ago, 1% of the Planet members have donated more than $200 million dollars to local and global environmental nonprofits. These are organizations that fight to sustain and improve our climate, food, land, water, air and wildlife.
Brew Dr. Kombucha and The Planet
As a proud member of 1% for the Planet, Brew Dr. Kombucha donates 1 percent of every bottle sold of our Love kombucha to nonprofit organizations focused on issues such as sustainable farming and environmental education. We are proud to have donated more than $350,000 to local nonprofits and charities. It’s just something we do because we can. Because we should. We believe the return on that giving is immeasurable, benefiting people and our planet for decades to come.
Even with our involvement with 1% for the Planet, we realized we could do more. Our brewing process had to be environmentally safe as well. We go to great lengths to ensure everything we do at Brew Dr. has either a neutral or beneficial effect on our planet. So much so, we are recognized as the first national kombucha company to become a Certified B Corporation.

Being a Certified B Corporation isn’t easy, but it’s worth every ounce of effort. It means we continually meet the highest standards of social and environmental responsibility, accountability and transparency. There are only 2,600 B Corps nationwide and it’s an honor to join the ranks of amazing companies like Ben & Jerry’s and Patagonia.
Part of our environmental sustainability efforts includes using 100 percent renewable energy in our manufacturing process, saving at least 1.42 million pounds of CO2 from entering our atmosphere every year. We go a step further to keep carbon emissions at a minimum by sourcing 85 percent of our kombucha ingredients from regional suppliers. We also repurpose the alcohol distillate byproduct of our brewing process into tea-based spirits and ethanol for fuel.
Ego Isn’t Part of It
We only boast of our accomplishments to inspire other companies and individuals to discover what they can do to benefit our planet. Companies like Patagonia inspired us and we understand that we have a platform to do the same for others. This planet is the only one we have (for now!) and each of us must do our part to take care of her. It’s our collective responsibility to nurture nature any way we can.
We encourage our friends, fans and followers to make 2019 the year they commit to finding environmental causes they can get behind. Consider joining 1% for the Planet, reducing carbon emissions, composting, donating to a local or global environmental cause, or educating others about sustainability. While you’re deciding what you can do, sip on a Brew Dr. Love kombucha and feel good about helping us give back to this amazing planet.
